Dental IT

The sensor froze, the patient is in the chair, and the schedule is already behind.

Intraoral sensors that crash. DICOM handoffs that fail silently. HIPAA paperwork nobody had time to finish. We do the dental-specific work that generalist IT shops keep getting wrong.

The systems we work in

  • Eaglesoft
  • Open Dental
  • DICOM imaging

The dental-specific problems

Generic IT shops have never seen these. We built for them on purpose.

A dental practice is not just a small business with computers. It is a clinical environment with hardware that moves, software that integrates badly, and a schedule that does not tolerate downtime.

  • F-01

    Intraoral sensor stops working mid-procedure

Driver crashed, USB hub overloaded, sensor warmed up wrong. Patient is numb. Hygienist is paused. The fix has to happen in the next 90 seconds, not in tomorrow morning's ticket queue.

  • F-02

Imaging server crashes during the 8 AM rush

Four ops, three hygienists, one server. When it goes down, the whole morning stacks up. Recovery without a real backup plan means rebooking patients and apologizing.

  • F-03

Dentrix will not open on the new workstation

Permissions, ODBC drivers, the database connection string, the workstation never joined the right group. The kind of install your last generalist quoted as 30 minutes and burned a whole afternoon on.

  • F-04

Insurance will not process because the imaging never transmitted

The X-ray sat in a temp folder. The claim went out without it. The denial came back two weeks later. Now somebody has to re-file, re-image, and re-submit while production drops.

  • F-05

Front desk locked out of the schedule

Password expired, account locked, MFA token reset never went through. Phones are ringing. The next patient is in the waiting room. There is no one to call who picks up.

  • F-06

After-hours emergency and no IT to call

Sunday night. The server reboot loop. Monday morning is six hours away and the schedule is already booked. The IT company’s on-call line goes to voicemail.

The dental on-ramp

Start with an assessment. Finish caught up.

Most dental practices carry two or three years of deferred IT work. The on-ramp is a ladder: a low-cost baseline assessment first, a deeper gap assessment and remediation roadmap next - and, at the top, the foundation bundle for practices that want the whole backlog cleared for them.

  1. 01

    Baseline assessment

A low-cost snapshot of your current IT and where you stand on compliance.

  2. 02

    Gap assessment

A deeper, scoped review of everything the baseline surfaced.

  3. 03

    Remediation roadmap

A prioritized plan you can run yourself - or hand to us.

  4. 04

    Foundation bundle

The done-for-you top rung: we clear the whole backlog.

Not sure where you stand? Start with a baseline assessment.

What is included

  • HIPAA Security Risk Analysis tuned for dental workflows, signed vendor agreements inventoried
  • Intraoral sensor validation on every operatory (drivers, calibration, capture tested)
  • DICOM imaging network segmentation (imaging traffic isolated from front desk and guest Wi-Fi)
  • PMS server health audit (Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Open Dental): backups, updates, performance
  • HIPAA-compliant email configuration
  • Written findings and a prioritized list of fixes you keep

What comes after the foundation

The monthly plan: dental-shaped, not generic.

After the foundation lands, the practice moves to a monthly plan sized to chair count and staff. What the plan actually does for a dental op:

  • Imaging server upkeep

Patching, updates, and storage checks on the box that holds your DICOM library - scheduled after hours, never during clinical time.

  • Sensor and chair-side device support

Driver updates, calibration, replacement coordination with your sensor vendor. When a sensor dies, we already know your model and your serial numbers.

  • Dentrix / Eaglesoft / Open Dental day-to-day

Workstation rebuilds, new-hire setup, schedule restore from backup, ODBC repair, year-end procedures. The mundane work that keeps the practice running.

  • HIPAA maintenance, not just initial setup

Annual security risk analysis refresh, quarterly vendor agreement review, quarterly phishing tests, policy re-signing, a written breach-response plan. The work an auditor expects to see ongoing.

  • Backup verification + quarterly restore drill

A backup you have never restored is not a backup. We pull a representative restore every quarter, document it, and store the signed record. Your insurer and federal auditors both want to see this.

  • 24/7 AI support, human dispatch in business hours

The AI assistant answers around the clock - a Sunday-night server reboot loop gets triaged at 11 PM, not Monday. Human dispatch runs Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM, and anything logged overnight is queued for dispatch when it opens in the morning.

Why us, not a generalist

We know what your imaging server sounds like at 7:45 AM.

Generalist IT providers treat a dental office like a small office with extra screens. It is not. The clinical workflow has hardware, software, and timing constraints a generalist will not learn until something fails on your dime.

We built for dental practices on purpose. The sensor models, the imaging stacks, the practice management quirks, the way Dentrix treats network shares - that is homework we do before you call, not on your dime.

  • Dental-specific reps, not transferable certifications

We recruit techs for Dentrix workstation builds, Eaglesoft database migrations, and Open Dental server cutovers - the practical reps, not the transferable certifications. Every tech is background-checked before dispatch.
  • AI triage handles the routine. Humans handle the chairside.

Password resets, schedule lookups, account unlocks - the AI talks your front desk through those in minutes, free. The intraoral-sensor-on-Op-3 problem gets a human in your area, on the phone or on site, fast.
  • Local Utah techs, not a national queue

We dispatch background-checked Utah techs, not a routing call to a data center in another time zone. The goal is a tech who knows the vendors dental practices in your area work with - not a stranger reading a script.
  • HIPAA is part of the plan, not an add-on

Security Risk Analysis, BAA portfolio, breach-response runbook. See the /compliance dental section for the full HIPAA detail.

Southern Utah practices

Dental IT in St. George, Washington County, and southern Utah

The dental-IT specialists that serve Utah are concentrated on the Wasatch Front, which is reasonable, since that is where most of the practices are. It leaves a real gap at the other end of the state: a practice in St. George or Washington calling a dental-specialist shop generally gets remote support and a scheduled drive, and a practice in Cedar City gets the same with a longer drive.

That gap matters more here than it would in most industries, because a dental emergency is physical. A frozen sensor with a patient in the chair is not a ticket that can wait for someone to come down from Provo on Thursday. The imaging stacks, the practice management quirks and the HIPAA work are identical wherever the practice sits; what changes is who can actually be there.

So the honest version of our southern Utah position: the remote and AI side is the same statewide, the on-site side reflects how many technicians the network has in the county, and we publish that number rather than a flattering one.

Washington County is the fastest-growing metro in the state, which is why practices keep opening here and why the local IT field has not caught up with them yet.

Dental FAQ

The questions practices ask first

Compliance, hardware, vendor coordination. Answers an office manager can hand to the dentist.

Yes. Because we handle patient data in the course of supporting your workstations and imaging server, we are a business associate. Healthcare organizations review and accept the BAA in the app before purchasing any services - the platform requires it. You can read it at app.techgig.ai/baa. Full detail on what is on our HIPAA checklist lives at /compliance#dental.
Yes. We coordinate directly with Henry Schein, Patterson, and Open Dental support when we need vendor-side help. Credits are scoped to the fix, not the phone time, so an hour on hold with them does not inflate your bill.
We handle that as a project, not a ticket. Server replacement, data migration, DICOM library transfer, and cutover with minimal clinical downtime - we plan migrations for a weekend. The foundation bundle covers the validation work; the hardware itself is a separate scoped engagement with an up-front, indicative quote before anything is ordered.
Yes. Asset inventory, workstation-by-workstation encryption check, BAA register, threat-and-vulnerability table, remediation roadmap, written report. Two to four weeks for a typical 5-30 person practice. Full scope at /compliance#dental.
For the IT side of it, yes. DICOM transmission failures, clearinghouse connectivity, EDI configuration. We do not write the claims themselves, but when imaging or EDI is the bottleneck, the diagnosis and fix are ours.
Salt Lake County and Utah County: our dispatch target is under 2 hours during business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 AM-6 PM). Outside those hours, the AI assistant is available 24/7 for triage and walk-through fixes, and your ticket is queued for dispatch the next morning. Phone-first triage is designed to resolve chair-side issues in under 15 minutes without anybody driving out. Phone is (435) 227-5583.

One scoping call. We will tell you what your practice actually needs.

Free, 30 minutes. We look at chair count, current setup, and the two or three things keeping the office manager up at night.
